Here's a take that gets me strange looks in procurement meetings: I don't look for the lowest-priced light fixture. I look for the most complete spec sheet.

What a Grow Light Question Taught Me About Honesty
Here's a question I never expected to handle as an emergency lighting guy: How far does a grow light need to be from plants?
A vertical farming client asked me that during a fit-out. They expected a chart on the wall: 12 inches, 24 inches, done. I told them I'd have to get the fixture's photometric data. Good grow lighting—like good commercial lighting—publishes PPFD maps for different mounting heights. Without that, you're guessing. With it, you can calculate DLI and set the hanging height based on the crop, not a marketing brochure.
